Air Traffic Controllers - Trainee

I applied for the FAA Air Traffic Controller Trainee role before the application deadline. About a month later, I was scheduled to take the Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA). Roughly another month after taking the exam, I received my results, and a few weeks later I received a Tentative Offer Letter (TOL). After accepting the offer, I had a few days to sign and return it. A few weeks later, I received additional pre-employment paperwork, including background check documents and other required forms. My next steps are receiving a Final Offer Letter (FOL) and my academy start date. Overall, the experience has been very organized and straightforward, but it requires a lot of patience. The hiring process takes several months. While the timeline can feel long, each step has been clearly communicated, and the process has been smooth from application through the tentative offer. If you’re applying, be prepared for a lengthy process, but don’t be discouraged by the waiting periods since that appears to be a normal part of the hiring timeline.
